Us parents don’t have the luxury to not have an emergency plan, but I need my friends, especially my single friends to form emergency plans and reliable cadres. I mean it. Copies of your birth certificate, passport and all other important id and insurance cards in simple ziploc bags, in an accessible backpack w/food bars, water, a solar phone charger and first aid kit.

Those friends that are like family in the city you’ve decided to settle? Where will you meet in an emergency? What 20 mile hike to safe ground have you mapped out? What are your alternate routes? Who in your wide network can provide alternate shelter?

Yes, I’m from Michigan, where militias have been stocking up on guns and Tang for three decades, but how will we, whose demands to cease climate silence go back a few decades, prepare for more frequent emergency scenarios? Even as we pray we never have to.
